Organise for an Anti-War Government to Put an End to War, Aggression and Conquest

One year ago, US imperialism and the British government unleashed their criminal invasion and occupation of Iraq in open defiance of the will of the world's people. This aggression was carried out to ensure US imperialism’s control over the resources of Iraq, to occupy a strategic region of the globe, and to impose Anglo-American values. It has killed and maimed tens of thousands of Iraqis, devastated the country's already degraded infrastructure and littered it with depleted uranium. This crime has aroused the indignation and hatred of the world's people. The people are declaring that occupation is not liberation and that the Iraqi people have the inalienable right to self-determination.

One year on, all the justifications that the warmongers offered at the time of their aggression have been exposed as lies from start to finish. Occupation has not brought democracy and security to the Iraq people, but foreign take-over, insecurity and chaos. The "bringers of liberation and democracy to the Iraqi people" are doing everything in their power to frustrate the demands of the Iraqis for democratic elections and the withdrawal of the occupation armies. Far from the world becoming more peaceful and secure, the opposite is the case. For all to see, the invasion and occupation of Iraq is a disaster. A disaster for the Iraqi people, a disaster for the people in Britain and in all the other aggressor countries where the "war on terrorism" is leading to ever greater attacks on basic democratic rights and the scapegoating of immigrants and asylum seekers.

On February 15, 2003, in London, some 2 million people marched to raise their voices for peace and justice and against the warmongering course of the government, joining with 15 million across the globe. The Labour government dismissed the people's demands and pressed ahead with its aggression and occupation of Iraq. Far from making self-criticism for his war crimes, Tony Blair and his government intend to continue on their warmongering course.

There is an urgent need for a people's anti-war government in Britain. A government which concerns itself with the interests of the workers and the millions of ordinary people and not with those of big business and the trans-national corporations. A government which outlaws Britain's involvement in wars of aggression and renounces the use of force in settling international affairs. A government which accepts the principle of non-intervention in the affairs of other countries and recognises the sovereignty and equality of all nations. A government which adopts a foreign policy in the service of international peace, independent of the US and other imperialist big powers. A government which withdraws from NATO and all other imperialist military blocs, withdraws British troops from all foreign countries and removes all foreign troops from Britain. A government which ends the militarisation of the economy. A government which pays reparations for all the crimes of British imperialism and colonialism, including the present crimes against Iraq and its people.

The establishment of such a government is a task which needs to be taken up in earnest now. On this road the people can put an end to the plague of warmongering and the terrorism which flows from it. RCPB(ML) calls on the workers themselves to become worker politicians and take up and organise for this programme, and for the people to unite around it and fight for its implementation.
